Mary Fries Patterson Diary, 1863-1864; 1911

Mary E. Fries of Salem, N.C., married Rufus L.Patterson (1830-1879) in 1864. The collection is a diary, 1863-1864 and 1911, of Mary FriesPatterson. The earlier volume covers theperiod of Fries's engagement. Daily entries record visits from her fiance, friends,and relatives, activities at the Presbyterian and Moravian churches, meetings of theRelief Society, and news of Confederate soldiers, as well as her weddingpreparations. Both her fiance and her father, Francis Fries, were manufacturers.Entries in the later volume, covering July-December 1911, deal with dailyactivities, travels, and visits.
