Sallie Nixon was born in Henderson, N.C. She and her husband Caldwell Nixon moved to Nebraska from North Carolina in 1967. After taking a class from poet Ted Kooser, Nixon was inspired to attend the University of Nebraska in 1969. Following her studies, Nixon returned to North Carolina. Her collections of poetry include (1965), (1977), (1990), and (2006). Ted Kooser was Poet Laureate of the United States, 2004-2006. He was born in Ames, Iowa, in 1939. He earned his undergraduate degree from Iowa State University in 1962 and his graduate degree from the University of Nebraska in 1968. Kooser's poetry collections include , winner of the 2005 Pulitzer Prize. Surely, Goodness and Mercy Second Grace Spiraling A Kind of Peace Delights & Shadows The collection is chiefly correspondence, 1975-2005, between Ted Kooser and Sallie Nixon. Kooser's letters discuss his writing projects. Also included are greeting cards featuring poetry and artwork by Kooser as well as printed and photocopied materials relating to him.
