William Parley Howell and his wife, Lilly Alice Adams, worked a potato farm in Clifton, Idaho. Parley was active in the LDS church, serving for a time as Clerk of the Clifton Ward. Their son, Cliff Adams Howell, was born in Clifton on July 10, 1915. Cliff went on to study at Utah State Agricultural College in Logan, where he fought on the school's boxing team and graduated from the School of Agriculture in 1939.
