Lorenz Straub was born in Kansas City, Missouri. He obtained a B.S. degree in Civil Engineering in 1923, an M.S. degree in Structural Engineering in 1924 and a Ph.D. in 1927 all from the University of Illinois. He came to the University of Minnesota in 1930 as an associate professor of mathematics and mechanics. In 1938 he became director of the St. Anthony Falls Hydraulic Laboratory and was named head of the Department of Civil Engineering in 1945. From the description of Papers, 19...
