Wallace David Armstrong was born on July 8, 1905 in Hunt County, Texas. He earned his B.A. degree from the University of Texas in 1926, his M.S. from New York University in 1928, his Ph.D. in physiological chemistry in 1932 and his M.D. in 1937 from the University of Minnesota. Dr. Armstrong joined the faculty as a graduate assistant in physiological chemistry in 1929.
