Esther Wattenberg was born on August 13, 1921 in London, Ontario, Canada. She earned her B.A. from the University of Western Ontario in 1941, her M.A. from the University of Toronto in 1944, and an additional M.A. from the University of Chicago in 1955. She has been a member of the staff at the University of Minnesota since 1964.
