"Hillel Halkin, a journalist and a writer, was born in New York City on the Upper West Side. He attended Columbia University, moved to Israel as a young man, and established himself by way of his seamless translations, from Hebrew and Yiddish to English, of a great many important writers, including Amos Oz, Uri Orlev, and A.
