Carol Ryrie Brink Papers 1934-1978

Carol Ryrie Brink's papers focus on her work as an author of children's and adult books. The collection contains production material for twenty titles, including one play, published between 1934 and 1978, as well as copies of short stories dating from 1920s, 1930s, 1940s, and 1950 that were published in various magazines for children and Gopher Historian. The collection includes holographs, typescripts, galley proofs, research material, clippings, a layout, and correspondence, along with actual copies of the magazines her shorts stories were published in, some with corrections and multiple copies, and photocopes of photographs of some of her childhood friends who served as the models for characters in Louly. The collection also includes the author's 1936 Newbery Medal, McKnight Family Literary Fund Medal, some miscellaneous art, and a substantial amount of reaearch and background material, correspondence, and related material to Carol Ryrie Brink's writing and publication of Caddie Woodlawn in 1935. There is also a copy of Carol Ryrie Brink's acceptance speech for the 1978 Kerlan Award.
