John Weir, a merchant, lived in Boston, Massachusetts, in the mid-18th century, and worked with Thomas Savage, also of Boston. In the spring of 1760, Weir traveled to the Caribbean port of "Mounto Christo" (Monte Cristo, Santo Domingo, now the Dominican Republic) to oversee exports of molasses to Massachusetts.
