Clarence Eugene Ekstrom was born on Mar. 10, 1902, in Waupaca, Wisconsin. He received his commission as an Ensign in the U.S. Navy in June 1924, and advanced through grades to the rank of rear admiral in October 1953, then to vice admiral in July 1958.
