Elton Watters Grenfell was born November 6, 1903, in Fall River, Massachusetts. He received his commission as Ensign in the U.S. Navy in 1926, and advanced through grades to the rank of vice admiral in 1960. Grenfell died in March 1980, in Alexandria, Virginia.
