Vice Admiral, U.S. Navy. Beakley, a graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy, was designated a naval aviator in November 1926. He served on USS Utah, destroyer Mahan, and with squadrons attached to USS Langley, seaplane tender Wright, and cruisers Trenton and Marblehead. From 1935-1937, he was assigned to USS Lexington. William Inman Martin was born on May 5, 1910, in Ava, Missouri. He received his commission as Ensign in the U.S. Navy in 1934, and advanced through grades to the rank of vice admiral in 1967. He commanded the U.S. Navy's Sixth Fleet in 1967 and 1968. Martin died on March 29, 1996, in Alexandria, Virginia. From the description of Martin, William I.
