William Frederick Halsey Jr. (October 30, 1882 – August 16, 1959) was a fleet admiral in the United States Navy during World War II. He was called "Bill" by his family and friends and nicknamed "Bull" by the press. Frederick William McMahon was born February 23, 1898, in New Haven, Conn. Felix Budwell Stump (1894-1972) was born in Clarksburg, West Virginia, and graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy in 1917. He commanded the Lexington in 1943, and was promoted to admiral the same year. From 1944 to 1945, he was the commander of Carrier Division Twenty-Four, and from December 1948 to April 1951, commanded the Air Force Atlantic Fleet. He retired in 1958.
