A. J. Granoff was born on February 22, 1896, in Kiev, Russia. He immigrated with his family to the United States in 1904, and lived in New York City, Palmerton and Allentown, Pennsylvania until 1915. In 1915 he settled in Kansas City, Missouri. He received his LL.B in 1920 from the University of Kansas Law School.
