This series mainly consists of a monograph with exhibits, entitled "The Role of Army Ordnance in the Mutual Defense Assistance Program, Fiscal Year 1950," and related records, in support of U.S. Public Law 81-329, the Mutual Defense Assistance Act of 1949. Transcripts of planning meetings, statistical progress reports, correspondence, and lists of ordnance items to be provided in assistance to each recipient country are included. Also included is a Quartermaster Corps report on the consolidated status of civilian foreign aid procurement, listing the quantity and cost of food and other aid items shipped overseas. Printed statements by General Matthew B. Ridgway and others concerning the Mutual Defense Assistance Program, delivered to the U.S. Senate Foreign Relations Committee, are also included. The records were collected and maintained by the Historical Branch.

General Matthew Bunker Ridgway (March 3, 1895 – July 26, 1993) was a senior officer in the United States Army, who served as Supreme Allied Commander Europe (1952–1953) and the 19th Chief of Staff of the United States Army (1953–1955). He fought with distinction during World War II, where he was the Commanding General of the 82nd Airborne Division, leading it in action in Sicily, Italy and Normandy, before taking command of the newly formed XVIII Airborne Corps in August 1944.
