Sherwoode Ayerst Taffinder was born March 18, 1884, in Council Bluffs, Iowa. He received his commission as Ensign in the U.S. Navy, and advanced to the rank of rear admiral in 1940. He was appointed commander of Cruiser Division 5, Pacific Fleet in 1941, and retired as vice admiral in 1947. Taffinder died on January 25, 1965. From the description of Taffinder, Sherwoode A.
