Career Army officer who served in the Philippines as an adjutant general and engineer officer, collector of customs, and cavalry squadron commander, participating in actions against the Tausug (Moros), 1899-1903; later apppointed governor of Moro Province and commander, Department of Mindanao, 1909-1913. Latimer, Julian Lane, 1868-1939

Julian Lane Latimer was born on October 10, 1868, in Sheperdstown, West Virginia. He received his commission as Ensign in the U.S. Navy in July 1892, and a advanced through grades to the rank of rear admiral in November 1923. He served on the Winslow during the Spanish-American War in 1898 then served as Judge Advocate General of the U.S. Navy from 1921 to 1925. Latimer died on June 4, 1939.
