Melvin Robert Laird (b. 1922) was a U.S. Representative from Wisconsin, January 3, 1953 to his resignation on January 21, 1969 to become Secretary of Defense. Creighton W. Abrams was a United States (U.S.) Army officer. He was the commander of the U.S. Military Assistance Command in Vietnam (MACV) and was the Chief of Staff (CofS) of the Army.
