Jay T. Robbins (b. 1919, Coolidge, Tex.-d. Mar. 3, 2001), ; jet-qualified command pilot, was appointed vice commander of the Tactical Air Command at Langley Air Force Base in Virginia in February 1970. In August 1972 he became vice commander of the Military Airlift Command. He retired from Air Force service on September 1, 1974. Charles F. Blair, Jr. (b. July 19, 1909, Buffalo, New York-d. Sept. 2, 1978), brigadier general in the U.S. Air Force, is famed for the first solo flight over the Arctic and the North Pole and the first by a single-engine aircraft in 1951.
