Thomas Bradley (December 29, 1917 – September 29, 1998) was an American police officer, lawyer, and politician. A member of the Democratic Party, he notably served as the 38th Mayor of Los Angeles from 1973 to 1993. He was the first and thus far only black mayor of Los Angeles, and his 20 years in office mark the longest tenure by any mayor in the city's history. Michael Raoul-Duval was born on July 18, 1938 in San Francisco, California. He graduated from Georgetown University in 1961, and Hastings School of Law at the University of California in 1967. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1961 to 1964, and the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve from 1964 to 1972. He worked as a lawyer for the Office of General Counsel at the Federal Aviation Administration, 1967 to 1970.
