Pare Lorentz (1905-1992) was founded and headed the 1935 government program, which became the United States Film Service in 1938, and ended in 1940. He established American precedent for the government use of documentaries, which would continue during World War II by the Armed Forces and the Office of War Information and later by the United States Information Agency, now the International Communication Agency.
