This series consists of airgrams, circulars, contracts, correspondence, despatches, memoranda, minutes, newsletters, newspaper clippings, notes, pamphlets, photographs, posters, reports, telegrams, and other records related to the book translation program in Latin America and Spain. The records relate to the publication, translation, selection, and distribution of books. The series includes correspondence with publishers, members of Congress, and officials at other federal agencies. Also included are records related to the Public Law 480 (P.L. 480) translation program. The series includes correspondence with John Edgar Hoover, Alfred Abraham Knopf Sr., and Edward Roscoe Murrow. Records in German, Spanish, and Portuguese are included in the series. The records were maintained by Translation Branch and its predecessors, the Information Center Service, the Division of Overseas Information Centers, and the Division of Libraries and Institutes.
