On Adm. Byrd's Antarctic expedition, 1939-1941. Reel 1, snow is dug from around a Condor seaplane. The Bear is anchored to barrier ice. Tunnels are dug in the snow and a camp site leveled. Shows interior of a sleeping room. Weather balloons are raised. Reel 2, a portable cabin is raised, snow tunnels dug, and frozen seal meat chopped. The North Star is anchored to ice and a snowmobile unloaded. Penguins are fed on deck. Reel 3, men are initiated as the Bear crosses the Equator. Dog teams and tractors pull supply sleds to a camp site. A Condor seaplane takes off and lands. Seal meat is chopped up for dogs. Stores are covered with a tarpaulin. Reel 4, the Bear is towed through locks at the Panama Canal. The engine of a Condor seaplane is heated with a blow torch. Snow block walls are erected around the plane. A snowmobile and other supplies are loaded aboard the North Star at Boston. Reel 5, dogs emerge from a snow tunnel. Food supplies are sorted. A weather balloon is blown up. Penguins float by on ice floes. Men zip up tents and crawl in. Reel 6 shows scientific laboratory and machine shop facilities. A snowmobile, a Condor seaplane, and other supplies are loaded on the North Star at Boston. Adm. Byrd and others pose for photographers. The ship is towed through locks in the Panama Canal. Reel 7, a snowmobile, a Condor seaplane, and other supplies are unloaded from the Bear. The North Star anchors off Pitcairn island. Natives near the ship in canoes. Dog teams pull a sled. Reel 8 shows views of Pitcairn scenery and habitation. The North Star proceeds through ice floes. A blizzard strikes a camp site. Reel 9, the Bear and North Star are anchored to ice. Dogs are fed and chase penguins. A snow block wall is erected around a Condor seaplane. Reel 10, a Condor seaplane is dug out of snow and takes off. Shows interior of machine shop, tailoring room, scientific laboratory, and storehouse. Reel 11, suppliesare moved around in a storehouse, seal meat is chopped and fed to dogs, and a tailor operates a sewing machine. Reel 12, a tractor clears a path in the snow, a Condor seaplane is dug out, a tractor pulls a tent house, and a snowmobile moves over drifts. Reel 13 shows penguins and dogs aboard the North Star. Tractors and dog teams pull supplies to a camp site. Shows a tailor and a welder at work. Reel 14, the North Star lies anchored to barrier ice. Shows penguins and snow petrels on deck and on the ice. A tractor is unloaded. Reel 15 shows men working in laboratories and radio rooms. Tractors pull a snow scoop and supply sleds. A Condor seaplane is dug from a snow drift. Seals and snow petrels play on ice. Supply sleds are winched from drifts by tractor. Reel 16, a tractor winches a Condor seaplane along ice. Tractors pull supply sleds. Stores are stacked and covered with a tarpaulin. Reel 17, the North Star moves through ice floes. Dogs and puppies play on the ice. Reel 18, sleds are made on the North Star's deck. The ship passes Pitcairn Island. Shows scenes on the island. Reel 19 shows penguins in cages and on nests, and scenes aboard the North Star.

Rear Admiral Richard Evelyn Byrd Jr. (October 25, 1888 – March 11, 1957) was an American naval officer and explorer.
