This series consists of Robert E. Peary's papers relating to his work on the Nicaragua Canal, which contain research papers and notes relating to the construction of the canal, research papers on the construction of other canals, draft and final reports on costs of construction and surveying of the canal; records relating to data on dredging; alignment tables; and administrative and personnel papers relating to the crews constructing the canal. Included are reports from the engineers responsible for each reconnaissance party; bench mark reports on construction; medical reports for the condition of work while in Nicaragua; account books and vouchers for the costs of construction; field notes belonging to Robert E. Peary discussing the construction of the canal, his research into the construction of other canals, measurements and calculations and excerpts of published books; records relating to personnel assignments to various sections of the canal; and copies of legislative bills related to securing funds for the construction.

Robert Edwin Peary Sr. (born May 6, 1856, Cresson, Pennsylvania – died February 20, 1920, Washington, D.C.) was an American explorer and United States Navy officer who made several expeditions to the Arctic in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
