This series contains documents pertaining to Robert Peary's financial state of affairs. Included are stockholder newsletters and stock share information from the Nicaragua Canal Construction Company; American Aircraft Company; Bankers Investment Corporation; Du Val, Greer & Company; U.S. Steel; The Pennsylvania Railroad Company; and Aerocruiser Corporation of America. There are also copies of town, county and state tax forms from Maine as well as letters and receipts from Chase National Bank; Lincoln Safe Deposit Company; Swan & Barrett Bankers; Du Val, Greer & Company; Equitable Life Insurance Society of the United States; Washington Loan and Trust Company; Union Safe Deposit and Trust Company; Portland National Bank; Hunt, Ellis and Company; W. B. Hibbs & Company; and Riggs National Bank of Washington D.C. Included in the series are loan approval slips, account withdrawal slips, overdrawn account notifications, and account deposit slips from Washington Loan and Trust Company; Federal Reserve Bank; and Portland National Bank. Loose checks, checkbooks with unused checks, check stubs, and deposit slips are located in the series as well. The series contains receipts and vouchers from various establishments, including J. W. Curtis, D.M.D., Dr.; W. H. Kohling of Merchant Taylor; Bowdoin College; Leonard Perry of Ladies' and Gent's Custom Boots and Shoes; Jordan Snow of Gents' Furnishing Goods and Ready-Made Clothing; Dr. A. G. Robert Edwin Peary Sr. (born May 6, 1856, Cresson, Pennsylvania – died February 20, 1920, Washington, D.C.) was an American explorer and United States Navy officer who made several expeditions to the Arctic in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. He is best known for claiming to have reached the geographic North Pole with his expedition on April 6, 1909. Though born in Pennsylvania, Peary grew up in in Portland, Maine.
