Henry Irving Hodes (1899-1962) was born in Washington, D.C. He received his commission in the infantry from West Point in 1920 and saw service in the Philippines with the 26th Cavalry from 1933 to 1936. He commanded the 112th Infantry, in 1944 and reached the rank of brigadier general in January 1945. He was assistant division commander of the 1st Cavalry Division, then the 7th Infantry Division in 1949 and 1950.
