Several silent scenes of Ridgway speaking from lectern. Reaction shots of newsmen. Sound portion: Ridgway greets the press. He speaks of forthcoming meetings with the press as per their request. In the two months that he has been here the Gen has conferred with half of the member nations. His next scheduled visit will be to Turkey. He speaks of tremendous "obstacles" being overcome. The staffs of the member nations are exceptional, he says. He explains in detail the relations of NATO to SHAPE; describes SACEUR. He speaks of solutions to problems, military aspects, etc. The reel ends with the Gen answering a question put to him by a correspondent off screen.

General Matthew Bunker Ridgway (March 3, 1895 – July 26, 1993) was a senior officer in the United States Army, who served as Supreme Allied Commander Europe (1952–1953) and the 19th Chief of Staff of the United States Army (1953–1955). He fought with distinction during World War II, where he was the Commanding General of the 82nd Airborne Division, leading it in action in Sicily, Italy and Normandy, before taking command of the newly formed XVIII Airborne Corps in August 1944.
