Dean Acheson, U.S. Secretary of State, born Dean Gooderham Acheso, in Middletown, Connecticut, on April 11, 1893. After being educated at Yale University (1912-1915) and Harvard Law School (1915-18) he became private secretary to the Supreme Court Justice, Louis Brandeis from 1919 to 1921. John B. Moullette was born on January 23, 1927 in Camden, New Jersey. From 1943 to 1946 he served in the U.S. Marine Corps, from 1946 to 1949 he served in the U.S. Merchant Service, and from 1950 to 1952 he again served in the U.S. Marine Corps. On January 16, 1951, while stationed at Camp Pendleton, California, he wrote a letter to his father, Clarence, questioning the United States' involvement in Korea.
