Hyman George Rickover (January 27, 1900 – July 8, 1986) was an Admiral in the U.S. Navy. He directed the original development of naval nuclear propulsion and controlled its operations for three decades as director of the U.S. Naval Reactors office. In addition, he oversaw the development of the Shippingport Atomic Power Station, the world's first commercial pressurized water reactor used for generating electricity. Emily Gordy Dolvin was born in Richland, Georgia in 1912. She grew up in Richland, about twenty miles east of Plains, Georgia, and graduated from high school in Columbus, Georgia in 1930. She became a school teacher until she married William Jasper Dolvin, who was a school principal and insurance agent. She helped her husband for years in the insurance office.
