A U.S. soldier cleans a machine gun as officers confer nearby. Japanese positions are bombed. A light plane lands on a beach, picks up two U.S. officers, and takes off. Gen. MacArthur and his staff deplane in Manila, are greeted by Filipino officials, and drive off in a closed car. U.S. officers inspect battlefields and a hospital from which patients are evacuated to the U.S. Shows panoramic views of U.S. troops, recently liberated from the Japanese, in the hospital.

General of the Army Douglas MacArthur (26 January 1880 – 5 April 1964) was an American five-star general and Field Marshal of the Philippine Army. He was Chief of Staff of the United States Army during the 1930s and played a prominent role in the Pacific theater during World War II. He received the Medal of Honor for his service in the Philippines campaign, which made him and his father Arthur MacArthur Jr. the first father and son to be awarded the medal.
