This collection consists of 49 photographic prints, mostly of the author Robert Franklin Gish. The collection also contains seven black and white prints which are reproductions of early photographs relating to the Fergusson family, most of which were printed in R.F. Gish's book, Frontier's End: The Life and Literature of Harvey Fergusson.

Harvey Butler Fergusson was born in Alabama on September 9, 1848. He was admitted to the bar in 1875. In 1882 he came to New Mexico. Fergusson, a leader in the New Mexico Democratic Party, served in the 55th, 62nd and 63rd U.S. Congresses. In 1898, during his first term, he pushed through the Fergusson Act, which gave millions of acres of the public domain to New Mexico for funding public schools, thus providing the foundation of a public school system in the territory. Robert Franklin Gish, writer, teacher, and scholar, was born April 1, 1940. Gish was raised in Albuquerque, N.M. where he taught both high school and college English. In 1992 Gish began teaching at California Polytechnic Institute as Professor of English and Ethnic Studies.
