Maxine O. Dellinger Wootton Papers 1960-1988 1960-1962

This collection documents the research and correspondence of Maxine O. Dellinger Wootton (1918-1993) pertaining to the creation of her manuscript, "The History of Abdominal Surgery in New Mexico." The collection includes the 62-page original manuscript, a reprint of the paper and an article by Wootton published in the Rocky Mountain Medical Journal. Also included is correspondence with doctors, hospitals and libraries as well as bibliographic material.

The University of New Mexico was established by the Legislative Assembly of the Territory of New Mexico in 1889. It was to be located in Albuquerque. Elias Stover was appointed the first president. Maxine O. Dellinger Wootton (1918-1993) was born in Clovis, New Mexico on May 20, 1918. A resident of Las Vegas, New Mexico for more than fifty years, Mrs. Wootton first came to the city to attend New Mexico Normal School, later named New Mexico Highlands University.
