Burl Ives (1909-1995) was a famous American musician and actor. His works include "Lavender Blue," and the popular Christmas song "A Holly Jolly Christmas." He worked in television, movies, and on stage. Some of his roles include Big Daddy in the original Broadway production, as well as the film version, of Tennessee William's "Cat On A Hot Tin Roof," and the voice of Sam the Snowman in "Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer."
