Anna Vertrees Love Ackerly was born near Johnson City, Tennessee and studied Home Economics at Tusculum College, Tennessee. She married Raymond S. Ackerly and came to live on the family farm at Crystal Run, Orange County, New York. She helped form the Orange County Home Bureau and was a 4-H leader. Her husband Raymond, son Robert, and daughter Helen all attended Cornell University. Vertrees Ackerly was on several Home Bureau boards and taught many informal home economics courses.
