Born in Pennsylvania in 1901, Hallock Raup moved to California as a young man and earned his B.A., M.A. and Ph.D. from the University of California at Berkeley. He taught at several colleges and universities including the University of California at Los Angeles and at Eastern Washington University at Cheney. From 1943 to 1945, Raup served on the Board of Geographic Names in Washington, D.C. Raup came to Kent State University in 1945 to head the Dept. of Geography. He served as department chair u...
