Society for Slovene Studies Records 1973-2012

The Society for Slovene Studies is a scholarly, non-profit organization founded in 1973 that is committed to the promotion of Slovene studies. It is an internationally recognized association that disseminates scholarly information on Slovene studies through the organization of meetings and conferences, and through through the preparation of scholarly works for publication. The records of the Society for Slovene Studies include correspondence, financial records, membership records, information about the Society's participation in conferences, sponsoring of scholarly panels, as well as materials regarding its publications. Also included is a set of the Society's newsletters and its publications, e.g., festschrifts, directories, and issues of . Among the records may be found information on the founding of the Society for Slovene Studies in 1973; its executive administration, constitution and by laws; its publications, website, conferences (including Young Scholars panels and collaborative panels with Central Europeanists); membership (lists, international and honorary memberships); financial reports on dues, bequests, donations, student prizes, publication costs, and subventions. Other topics include Slovenia in Crisis, 1986-1991 - Slovenia's independence, the Bled Conference of 1988, American Scholars for an Independent Slovenia (ASIS), immigration studies scholars; the "Hurricane Conference, Boca Raton, Florida, 1998 - the Plecnik sessions, the crisis in the Society's administration and the solution; and the proposals for a Center for Slovene Studies.
