Annie Laws (1855-1927) was a Cincinnati educator and civic woman. She helped to establish the Cincinnati Training School for Nurses, which later became the College of Nursing at the University of Cincinnati. She was also Vice-President of the Hospital Social Service Association of Cincinnati and an active member of the Red Cross. The kindergarten movement in Cincinnati began in privately with the establishment of separate German-language and English-language kindergartens. By 1879, a group of wealthy women became concerned that the children in Cincinnati in most need of a kindergarten education, the poor, were unable to access such an education.
