Ralph Liston Maloney was born in 1927 in Cambridge, Massachusetts. He graduated from Harvard University in 1951. In 1955, he married Joan Wilgus and they had three children. He died on November 22, 1973, of a liver ailment in New York City. Maloney was a member of the Authors Guild, The Mystery Writers of America, and was an honorary member of the American Association of Boxing Managers .
