Frank Whitney Finger was born April 16, 1915 in Buffalo, New York, and died in 2003 from stroke complications. Finger pursued his undergraduate (1936) and Master's (1937) degrees at Syracuse University under the mentorship of Floyd Allport. Finger then went on to Brown University to complete his PhD in 1940.
