The Lockheed Martin Aeronautical Patent Collection was developed by the Lockheed Aircraft Company to provide a single source of information concerning aviation-related patents in the United States. The collection spans a period beginning with the initial experiments with balloons in 1844 to the aviation technologies developed through1988. The collection is organized according to the United States Patent and Trademark Office 244 Class of Aeronautics and Astronautics. The patents are filed in patent number order according to the sub-category class number assigned by the Patent Office.
