J. T. Johnston was a resident of Gustavus, Ohio, who accumulated material concerning the 1832 murder of Frances M. Buel by her stepfather, Ira W. Gardner. The collection consists of a copy of a sermon delivered at Frances Buel's funeral, newspaper clippings, poems and eulogies, and notes on the lineage of Ira W. Gardner.
