Dr. John Green (1736-1799) and Mary Ruggles (d. 1814) of Worcester, Massachusetts, had 13 children, including Timothy and William Elijah. Timothy Green was born in Worcester on January 9, 1765. He graduated from the College of Rhode Island (now Brown University) in 1786, and later married Mary Martin. Green practiced law in Worcester until 1788, when he moved to New York City.
