S. Alicia Poole was the daughter of Samuel Bayard Poole who was the second superintendent of the Mackinac Island State Park Commission. Following his retirement, he built the Iroquois Hotel, which he operated with his wife Martha, and his daughter Sarah Alicia. Together the Poole family were founders of the "Little Stone Church" on the Island. The family was active in preservation efforts on the Island and documenting the history and personages of the area.
