Lynn Eley was born Oct. 23, 1925 in Zearing, Iowa. He received a B.A. in 1949 from Harvard and a M.A. in 1951 and a Ph. D. in 1952 from the State University of Iowa. Eley joined the University of Michigan faculty in 1955 as research associate in the Institute of Public Administration. He later became a faculty member in the department of political science.
