Otto Loewi, 1873-1961, was born in Frankfurt am Main, Germany. He received his M.D. from the University of Strasbourg in 1896, and dedicated his career to basic research in physiology and pharmacology. He served as professor and head of pharmacology at the University of Graz (Austria) from 1909 until he left Austria in 1938.
