Grace Norton (1834-1926) was born in Cambridge, Massachusetts, the daughter of Andrew Norton and Catherine Eliot Norton, and the sister of American author and Harvard professor, Charles Eliot Norton. She was privately educated in Cambridge, and developed a great love for the literature of France, especially that of the French essayist, Montaigne.
