John Van Schaick ( 1873-1949 ) was born in Cobleskill, New York . He received his AB from Union College in 1894 and was awarded an honorary DD from St. Lawrence University in 1910 . He was ordained at the Church of Our Father, Universalist, in Washington, D.C., in 1901, where he served as pastor until 1918 .
