Lawrence L. Lowther received his Bachelor of Arts degree in History and Language Arts from the University of Washington in 1952. He completed a Master’s degree in History at the University of Washington in 1959, followed by a Ph.D. in History at the same university in 1964. After graduating in 1952, he worked as a language arts teacher at Twisp High School in Twisp, Washington, from 1952-1954. Kamola Hall at Washington State Normal School (predecessor to Central Washington University) was completed in October of 1911. A dining room addition was added in 1915 and was enlarged once again in 1919. The facility was originally used as a women’s dormitory. During the Second World War, the dorms were used as a barracks for Army Air Corps cadets training at the college and nearby airfield.
