Meyer “Mike” Chessin was born on February 2, 1921 in New York City. He moved to California at age 16. After high school, he attended UCLA and received an A.A. degree in Plant studies in 1939. Chessin then attended UC-Berkeley where he received a B.S. degree in Plant Pathology in 1941. He enlisted in the military in 1943.
