This collection consists of the papers of Rev. Rodney R. Romney. Included are papers Romney wrote and lectures Romney gave concerning peace in the Middle East, homosexuality, and aging. Speeches given at various conferences can also be found in the collection. Also included are Romney's sermons (1980-2000) as well as sermons he gave when visiting churches after his retirement in the early 2000's. Manna

The Rev. Dr. Rodney R. Romney graduated from Linfield College in McMinnville, Oregon in 1954. He then went to the American Baptist Seminary of the West in Berkley, California where he graduated with a Master of Divinity in 1960 and a Doctor of Ministry in 1967. He served as the senior minister of the Lakeshore Avenue Baptist Church in Oakland, California until the mid-1980's. He then moved to Seattle, Washington where he served as the senior minister for First Baptist Church until his retirement...

Seattle First Baptist Church was founded in December 1869 when eleven members held the first service in the home of Abigail Hanford. The first church was built in 1872 and was located between present day 4th and 5th Avenues and Cherry and James Streets. The Great Seattle Fire of 1889 stopped short of the church, but the congregation soon grew too much for the little building to hold and a new sanctuary was built in 1899 at the same location. The regrading of downtown left the church...
